Toots & Techniques WeekendTools & Techniques Weekend

Saturday 17 & Sunday 18 February, from 10am to 4pm in the Sturt School for Wood

Sturt's signature annual woodworking event features displays and sales by Australia's finest toolmakers and specialist timber suppliers in the historic Sturt School for Wood.  Woodworking demonstrations will be conducted each day by leading furniture makers from Studio Woodworkers Australia.  Free admission and parking.  Participants include HNT Gordon, Colen Clenton, Japanese Tools, Allwood Specialty Timbers, Gifkins Dovetail, Jim Davey, Vesper Tools, Dunstone Design, Keith Houston, Lie Nielsen Toolworks.

SATURDAY 17 FEBRUARY
10.30am Finishing simplified
Peter Young
Peter Young is a professional furniture designer-maker dedicated to excellence, with the aim to design and build furniture that stands the test of time Peter has trained in Australia as well as Canada and the US.
     
12noon 'Bench Talk'
Understanding and choosing workbenches

Evan Dunstone
Evan Dunstone is a designer, craftsman, educator and writer. Evan is a 2001 Churchill Fellow in contemporary chair design and manufacture. He has established his showroom in Canberra with a workshop in Queanbeyan and produces a range of contemporary studio furniture.
     
2.30pm Cutting dovetail keys
using the Gifkins jig

Col Hosie
Col Hosie and his partner Pam Corrigan purchased Gifkins Dovetail from the jig inventor Roger Gifkins in 2011. Col has an extensive background in teaching, and arts and crafts. and is also an accomplished wood turner. 

SUNDAY 18 FEBRUARY

Darren Fry
Darren Fry is a furniture designer-maker and accredited member of Studio Woodworkers Australia.
     
2.30pm Sharpening
Phoebe Everill
Phoebe graduated from the Sturt School for Wood in 2011 and has since set up her own successful practice and wood school in rural Victoria. Phoebe has taught a number of courses here, and is tutor for the full time course.

Friends of Sturt Annual General Meeting

Sunday 18 February, 2.30pm in Sturt Cottage
Consider taking on a role helping FOS in its many different activities supporting and fundraising for Sturt.  Come along and join the committee for light refreshments and a review of the year past.
